track of the year 2011
2011 has been a memorable year musicwise. there were so many unbelievable good releases and to choose just one single stand-out track is almost impossible. but sometimes in life it all comes down to make a decision…
so here we go.. my very personal track of the year:
the addictive groove and the line “is this far enough” are just two reasons what makes this track so glorious!
the honorable mention this year goes to THE RAPTURE with It Takes Time To Be a Man.
ps: the photo’s me with my best buddy having a blast as always in 2011. cheers m8!
it’s been online for a while now. check it if you got some time to kill.
this summer i went on a surf trip to france and spain. i’ve been there quite often over the years hence i thought it’s time for something new.
and so in search of adventure, good waves and few crowds i drove as far west as the mainland of spain would allow me to.. to a remote and solitary place called galicia. and i shouldn’t be disappointed…
so here’s just a few of the photos i took on this trip.
it’s been fairly quiet on my tumblr for the last weeks. nowadays i feel i need a little break from everything that is happening. and there’re so many things happening.
very soon the time of the year comes when i feel like a complete human being again. it’s time for me to reunite with the ocean.. to go surfing.
therefore i post this couple of photos from last years surf adventures around the french west-coast. i had such a lovely time and i wanna thank everybody who was a part of it :)
cheers

legendary miss ‘dirty martini’ during one of her performances at the vienna burlesque ball two weeks ago.
karl lagerfeld did a shooting with her about a year ago for v magazines’ size issue. running out of things to say.
maybe i’ll post more photos of this fun little event soon.
‘sugar’
a friend of mine has a horse and a couple of weeks back she asked me if i wanted to come along when she went to see it. so i did. my camera as well.
when she went into the round pen (that’s were the photo was taken) with ‘sugar’ (a blood horse) he was going nuts. round after round in full speed. it was a pretty impressive sight. ‘that’s why they call it horse power’ i thought to myself..
this is the movie barcode of ‘the matrix’ (1999). a friend of mine started doing this a while ago. he basically makes a screenshot of every key frame, puts the pictures together… et voila: the color sheme of the movie apears. it’s really fascinating how movies from different genres match certain color shemes. in this case we see the movie barcode of ‘the matrix’ aka the greenest movie ever made.

i feel like i just wasted two hours of my life watching the coen brothers 2007 achievement ‘no country for old man’. wow… just how much blood and violence does i take to make an interesting movie these days? but while i ask myself this question i feel like a hypocrite about shaking my head in sadness of it all.
why does one watch movies nowadays? what the coen brothers created here is a deeply ironic movie about human nature and fate. but do we really go to the movies to see an ‘ironic’ movie? probably not. we watch movies for excitement and satisfaction.
the question this raises is: have we deteriorated to the level of dumb beings unable to confront our fears and emotions which happen to be depicted in (some) movies when they don’t give us satisfaction and/or excitement?
we live the comfy life. and we want to keep it that way. things shaking us up are not appreciated. taking these thoughts into account for my rating of this movie: 2 of 5.
story-wise… i simply didn’t like it very much.
ps: if you DO happen to like ironic movies give ‘the man who wasn’t there’ a try (also from the coen brothers, 2001). brilliant stuff
‘ghost’
in december i informed you that jeff wall was giving a speech about the pros and cons of painting (interesting since he’s a photographer and not a painter).
i had my camera on me that night (a decisive night for me personally as i should learn later that evening) and deceided to take a picture of him. of course i’d couldn’t ‘just’ take a picture of him delivering his speech so i went for his ‘ghost’.
make sure you check out some of his photographs. they’re stunning. if you ever have the chance to see them live i’d strongly advise to go for it !
some of his stuff is displayed at the vienna mumok in the permanent collection.
